The Fold Up Bike Trip

Day 9
Sunday 21.06.09     Ste Enimie to Carcassonne          210 miles

Here is a bit of useful info regarding Credit Cards – Mastercard payments can fail at times in France. This can be embarrassing when paying for accommodation, as I found out several times during this trip. So it’s worth having a Visa card as well, these seem to work better.

I have 3 cards. One is a Mastercard. Another is A debit card with Euros on it, also a Mastercard. The third is my emergency Barclaycard, this is a Visa Card. Imagine my relief when card number 3 finally worked at the Hotel. Theoretically the hotel should have a number that they can call to sort out this problem. However,1. They usually know nothing of this arrangement and 2. Can you speak enough French to get through? Enough of the rant – take a spare card.

Judith is flying back tomorrow, so the plan is to get close to Carcassonne today. With the usual bad navigating and detours to sleepy little villages we manage to turn our 120 mile trip into 210 miles. Its Sunday and it’s difficult to find anywhere to stay so we carry on to Carcassonne and stop at an Ibis Hotel in the middle of the town, £68 for the room which was average for Carcassonne.

Washed and rested we head up to the ‘Medieval Cite’. This is separate from the town, up on a hill. There is a Music Festival on and the place is buzzing. After all that travelling today this looks like a good move. A nice meal, a walk round listening to several bands playing, all in all a great evening and then back to the hotel for some well deserved zzzzz’s.
