The Fold Up Bike Trip

Day 11
Tuesday 23.06.09   Collioure                 Rest Day

The wind has dropped! I spoke to a man from Perpignon who said that the ‘Vent De Montagne Noir’ could last from 3 to 9 days. We have been lucky ......
The beach is only a 2 minute stroll. Its a small bay with a pebble beach. I sat in the sun for over an hour and then went for a walk along the cliff path. Later I went back to the campsite, and the shade, bought bread, cheese and pate and settled down for a long lunch and afternoon snooze.

Fell asleep and woke with a crick in my neck at 4.00 pm. I think I needed to rest up today. Still, my washing is done and drying in the sun, no more smelly biker J It must be the first time I’ve been on a tour and not started the bike all day. It’s very quiet on the site but a few people stop for a chat.

Boules start at 6.00 pm prompt every evening, with a few local guys joining the Owner for a game, a chat and a glass of Pastis. They play near the exit and he’s just redirected a campervan – Do Not Disturb the game! It’s been hot today, 30 degrees, and it’s just starting to cool down. Time for some dinner. I will be having Gloucestershire Old Spot Pork Meatballs with Butter Beans in Rich Tomato Sauce courtesy of Look What We Found ready meals. It has been worth bringing these ‘meals in a bag’ as I can turn up anywhere and quickly cook something to eat.

Compare this –
One night in a small hotel + meal + wine = £60
One night on a Municipal campsite + ready meal + wine = £12
It’s expensive on this particular campsite (£16) but I still get nearly 3 nights for the price of a hotel. Also camping is more fun. No need for a key, no weird landlord secure parking and you meet people!

The game has finished, 7.45 pm, just in time for the good lady of the house to have dinner on the table at 8.00 pm. I’ve eaten my meal and go off for a last look at the beach, a magic place and I’ve got it all to myself. Back at the tent I wind down with a book and get ready for bed. Tomorrow I go to Central Spain.
