The Fold Up Bike Trip

Day 10
Monday 22.06.09    Carcassonne to Collioure             160 miles

So Stage 2 is coming to a close. It’s been good to see Judith for a few days but I wouldn’t want to put her thru the rest of this journey with its stupid miles and very hot weather. Its only for us ‘Mid Lifers’ :)

Before we leave we go for a walk along the river near our hotel. This turns out to be a highlight with an abundance of wildlife. Makes us think we could come back for one more visit.

Judith is safely on the plane home and so I head back to Castelnaudery, about 30 miles. I was supposed to stay one more night but they wanted to charge me €59 – I only paid €68 for 2 people. So I made an excuse and set off for the Mediterranean coast.

The options now are :- I can get a few miles down the road and find a campsite or make the longer journey to my next destination. Its been very windy for the last 2 days and as you know dear readers, I hate the F***ING WIND! However, having changed a few settings on the bike it’s not so bad so, after a bit of cursing and swearing at the God of Sidewinds, I arrive at Collioure, a whole day ahead of schedule!

It’s hot and windy in Collioure and the campsite takes a bit of finding (good ‘ole Sat Nav to the rescue). It’s a nice, shaded spot. I’m showered, refreshed. I’ve had something to eat and am half way through a rather nice bottle of wine. Phase 3 has begun ....................

PS. I passed thru another amazing gorge today, wonderful riding. The area from Carcassonne down to the border and across to Perpignon is heaven on a bike!
