The Fold Up Bike Trip

Day 1
Saturday 13.06.09 Nottingham to Neufchatel En Bray 300m
Wide awake at 6.00 am! May as well get up. 2 hours later I’m on the road and heading for Calais once more. This is the 4th year I’ve done this journey and I still get excited at the prospect of travelling for days by Motorcycle.
The weather is kind to me and I do the first part of the trip in 4 hours. I get on an earlier ferry – result! Watching Scooby Doo on the ships TV, fed and watered and ready for the French Motorway.

I’m off the ferry first and out onto the road. Do an hour and then stop to fill up and check things over. Off onto the Motorway again and I pass a few bikers doing a steady 80 mph. Its a perfect day for riding, no crosswinds, and the bike feels very ‘planted’, so I up the tempo a bit and soon find myself at licence grabbing speeds. There is hardly anything on the road and I do the 100 miles in an hour and a quarter!
The sat nav does a superb job of finding the campsite and I am soon pitching up and brewing tea. 6.30 in the evening, 23 degrees. I’m sitting by the tent, rustling up some food and finishing off me 2nd cuppa. I spend the rest of the evening sitting outside the bar pouring over my maps, lovely job!
